Art has been such a driving force in my life since childhood. I was always taking classes and filling my free time with drawing. In high school I got permission with a friend to paint a mural on the girls room wall. We did a city skyline, I'm not sure why, but it appealed to us at the time. I've definitely had peaks and valleys with my creativity, but I always come back to it. I think most artists are emotional people and I've learned to accept myself as I am and not stress the unproductive times.
This past year I found myself getting burned out from filling orders and spending too much time on it. I've taken a little break and have been working more on the supply end of it. That has been very rewarding and a fun diversion.
Over the weekend, I dug my paints and brushes out and started working on this doll.
And I really enjoyed it.....which was the best part! I'm not sure if she is completely done yet, but for the most part she's finished. I think I'm going to hang onto her for now and let her become my muse. Maybe that's what I needed all along, a studio muse!
Can you really have both?
I went shopping yesterday for a new chair to put in the den. Comfort was the main objective. I wanted a chair that I could curl up in with a blanket and my cat, nap in or put up my feet and recline in. Lazy Boy was the name that came to mind, but I really was not crazy about (let's be honest, hated) the big overstuffed, couch potato chair that the Lazy Boy name is synonymous with.
Take this chair for example. It has a mini refrigerator, telephone and a lumbar heating and message system. The only thing missing is a trap door with a potty, then you wouldn't ever have to get up. But do you think I would ever put something this ugly in my house? Never!
I ended up getting this one. It's a Lazy Boy, it rocks and reclines and it's very comfy. This is a computer generated photo with the fabric I picked out. I think I made a good compromise, it's plush and roomy and this fabric gives it a bit of style. So, do you think I made a good choice or is it hideous? Be honest.
After furniture shopping for most of the day yesterday, I was able to catch up on some listings and packing last night. I have these new items available at Vintage Supply.
Have a good day!
Announcement: When I reach 100 fans on the Vintage Supply facebook page, I am going to be doing a giveaway. I'm in the 70's now, so get on over there and sign up!
I will be drawing a name randomly from the first 100 signed up.
Today I am happily crossing things off my to-do list. Making excellent progress, actually until I set up my Vintage Supply Facebook page. And then I got sucked into the black vortex of the internet. You know that place where you are constantly reading "helps" and trying to make sense out of something that is supposed to be so simple. The link is on your right, if anyone has problems with the page or has suggestions once you get there, please let me know.
I want this Facebook page to be about flea-marketing, collecting, and basically sharing a love of all things vintage. I have another Facebook page, but always hesitated to share my ideas and experiences about junking. I just didn't know if anyone else would be interested in hearing it. So, that's what this new page will be about. If you have a passion for vintage, I'd love for you to become a fan.
I've been working on typewriter key jewelry for the last few days. These bracelets are made from old metal buttons and typewriter keys. They are on their way to a retail shop in Arizona. I've made so many of these in past few years. The fun part is that no two are ever alike.
Hope you have a good day!
I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter! It will probably be a quiet weekend for us. With our vacation behind us and as busy as I have been, Easter kind of snuck up on me.
The flea market trip on Thursday was great. We arrived when they were opening the gates and we took in as much as we could. There is always so much to see.
The vendors with tents and shade were the lucky ones!
I did bring a list this time and stuck to it somewhat. I am getting better at knowing exactly what I am looking for, but still get sidetracked when I see a pile of costume jewelry, or a box full of old photos. Like I need more photos.......or costume jewelry....**sigh**
I found lots of treasures that I don't know if I will be able to part with. Clocks, a wonderful Victorian photo album, crystals, memory jars, books, tags and more. I need to part with some things, though. I will be listing items in Vintage Supply all weekend, so do stop by!
