I thought I would do a quick catch up on our house renovation project tonight. Although it's been consuming a lot of my time lately, I haven't been writing too much about it because it's not the fun "decorating" kind of renovation, it's mostly the tearing out and rebuilding kind.
This is the way the bathroom began. Very outdated with galvanized plumbing hopelessly clogged up from years of use. The commode worked (sort of) but nothing else did.
This is what it looked like after we had the floor and walls ripped out. Good thing we did because several of the studs were rotted through.
I found this fascinating...a pile of old razor blades. If you remember, medicine cabinets used to have a slot in the back to stick your dull blades in. They all fell through and landed either in the walls of the house or in the crawl space underneath. I think we picked up at least a hundred old blades.
Here's a before and after of the same area. We now have a floor and sheetrock!
...and a new shower has been moved to the other side of the room.
This bathroom is definitely coming along : )
That brings us to bathroom #2.
This is what it looked like when we got the house. I spent the first day scrubbing the nicotine streaks off the walls and ceiling. That alone will keep me from ever picking up a cigarette. Ick.
Next, plastic painted tiles needed to be chipped off one by one.
They came off pretty easily, but there was so many of them!
Finally, all the tiles are off...looking so much better already! Sheetrock or bead board is going to cover those messy walls...not sure which yet. We're going to try and salvage the vintage tile floor by painting it.
A fresh coat of paint on the vanity and it's ready for some new hardware. This bathroom will look great with new light fixtures, a medicine cabinet and a pretty sage green paint on the walls.
That brings you up to date on the renovation for now. I am looking forward to changing gears this weekend by attending a local auction that promises to be brimming with antiques. I'm sure there will be flocks of bidders, but it will be fun to go to anyway. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I can find a least a bargain or two.
Bye!

You are right, Dwane! Thanks for your comment!

Yeah yeah, the razor blades are kind of cool. It's amazing how lost items end up in the oddest locations, right? Anyway, the progress on the new bathroom seems to be going pretty well. It's tough work to tear apart what was there before. It does take a lot of time, but once you get things rolling, and once you're almost at the bottom of that hill... the new bathroom becomes quite satisfying to finish.

Great project! The razor blades made me smile. What a story it would have been if you've gold there. Anyway, there's no doubt your remodel will turn out fantastic. And I do have to say, once all of the plastic painted tiles on the walls were taken out, the walls just looks like once giant graham cracker. =)
