Day 28 & 29

Money and what you are listening to

(In your mind, imagine the song "Money" by Pink Floyd.  I had the video here, but apparentely I wasn't supposed to do that because of copyright violation.  Oh well, my bad and apologies to whoever owns the rights to it.)

Great song....a real classic.  How could anyone growing up in the 70's not love this?

Well, my photo a day for the month of February is drawing to a close.  This way really fun.  I like to post on my blog often, but many days I am scratching my head trying to think of something to say.  This has at least given me a starting point .

Today, I'm packing up orders and will be making a trip to the post office before too long.  I hope you will forgive this short note, but I still have lots to do and the afternoon is winding down.

Day 27

Something you ate

Mesquite turkey on a thin bagel with blue cheese crumbles.

I got up this morning and planned on spending the day at work catching up on things and doing listings.  I made this sandwich to take along for lunch.  These thin buns are really not bad....and only about 100 calories.  Turkey always works for me and I can literally put blue cheese crumbles on just about anything....eggs, salad, toast. 

This sandwich and a large coffee from McDonald's kept me going today.  Why can't I brew coffee that tastes that good? 

Anyway, I got a bunch of new items listed today.

Night

Day 26

Night

I love that time of day when the sun is setting and night is moving in.  In the past, I didn't mind at all to be out driving around, doing things at night.  Now I would rather get my activities for the day behind me and spend the evening at home.  Boy, am I getting old.  I just don't like to drive at night.  There's a lot of deer around here and they always come out to feed at night, so I worry about that, among other things.

We've been doing some hiking this past year and we're thinking about going camping soon.  Camping, as in tent not RV.  Talk about black....when you get out in the woods, away from civilization, with only the stars above you, that's when you know what black is really all about.  We bought a new tent and we have most of our other supplies now. 

 A little voice inside of me is saying..."c'mon, you, in a tent in the woods? chuckle-chuckle."  I'm going to put that doubting Thomas away and give it a try.  I love being in the woods, so camping is the next reasonable step...right? 

I will keep you posted on that....when and if it happens.

Vintage Green

Day 24

Inside your bathroom cabinet

An assortment of lotions, fragrances, sunscreen, etc.  Seems like we keep all the medicines in a kitchen cabinet.  They got lumped in with the vitamins when we moved and it just stayed that way.

Day 25

Green

Yay!  Now this is a topic I can relate to.   My love affair with jadite green dishes began a long time ago and it has spilled over into anything vintage green.

Instead of storing my Fire King dishes away in a cupboard, I use them as much as possible.  This mug holds extra teaspoons on the kitchen counter.  I have another one like this filled with pens and pencils.

A green metal toy stroller sits atop one of the kitchen cabinets.  The salt cellar was a gift from my friend, Linda.  I always admired it in her home and she finally broke down and gave it to me.

I love my green enamel bread box.  I looked hard for one of these and finally found it in an antique shop.  It was so much more than I could afford at the time, but I don't regret buying it for a minute!

This scale is the newest addition to my collection.  My son's girlfriend was in California cleaning out some things from her grandmother's kitchen.  She knows I love scales and thought this one was a bit unusual, so she packed it up and mailed it to me.  She casually mentioned that a scale was on the way and I should be on the lookout for it.  Well....this I didn't expect!  It has a skinny design and the dish on top is removable.  Very cool.  One of my all time favorite things.

February Hike

Day 23

Your shoes

9 am this morning, wearing my boots and ready for a hike in the woods.  The forecast was for highs of 73 degree today.  How could I not spend the day outdoors?

The trees still look bare from the long winter, but things are starting to green up a little.

After hiking for about an hour, we made it to the lake and had a picnic lunch there.  Sandwiches, pretzels, dried fruit and almonds.  I had worked up an appetite by then and it tasted good.

When we reached the top of the mountain we had to pause and take it all in.

And then another few miles of trails and we were back to where we began.

Tonight, I'm a little sore from all he climbing, but also feeling good after breathing in all that fresh air today!

21.  A fave photo of you

I was doing a show at The House of Blues and the issue of Somerset Studio had just come out with my collage on the cover.  I had the magazine there and a friend of mine came by and wanted to snap a picture of me holding it.  I was still feeling kind of giddy at that point that I made the cover....but it was a happy time for me.

22.  Where you work

This is the newest addition to my workspace.  I got this cabinet at the auction that I went to this past weekend.  It was hanging in the garage, filthy dirty with a pane of glass broken on the front.  I replaced the glass, cleaned it up and put new pink knobs on the doors. 

I love it!! 

When I saw that green paint on the inside, I knew I had to have it.  I didn't know exactly where I was going to put it, but that's never stopped me before.

I'm going to have to add this to pinterest.  I created a "green goodness" board the other day and have had a ball adding pictures to it.  Check it out HERE.

Happy Holiday Monday

Today was supposed to be a productive day....but here we are at 4 pm and not a lot has been accomplished.  Well, I take that back.  I did go for a run this morning, went grocery shopping afterwards and then made potato salad.

It's a hot german potato salad with bacon dressing.  I made it once and brought it over to our friend's house and now they always request "Jeanette's famous potato salad."  Funny how that happens; I never claimed it was a family recipe or anything, but now it's my signature dish.  I usually just smile and say I'll make it again.

So, we are going to a cookout tonight, that should be fun.

Day 18 & 19

18.  Drink

A nice glass of orange juice with my breakfast this morning.

19.  Something you hate to do

Predictable, but it's true.  I have never been a person who likes to clean, but I do it....because it's necessary.  Don't look too closely at baseboards or in corners, though.  I am definitely not a clean freak.

Yesterday, I ended up spending most of the day at an estate auction.  The weather was beautiful and I had a great time.  I couldn't get anyone to come along with me (party poopers) so I just went by myself.

They had a good sized crowd in attendance.

My winnings so far....candesticks and vintage sewing supplies.

I won this green and white cabinet that was hanging in the garage.  It's a great piece and just needs a pane of glass replaced on the front.  For a $5 tip, these guys took it off the wall for me and loaded it into my car.  Money well spent.

This was my favorite find of the day.  A bone china platter made in England and a pretty pink and white sugar bowl.  I had to buy a whole box of junk to get these, but I just dumped everything else.

Time

Day 17

Time

Oh, this will be a fun theme.  I love everything related to time pieces...clocks, pocket watches, gears and parts, clock hands...the list goes on and on.  I've used watch parts in my artwork forever.  

My grandfather was a jeweler and had his own business in Bangor, Maine.  My uncles followed in his footsteps and opened shops of their own.  They all did watch repair and one of my uncles gave me lots of old watch parts after he saw what kind of artwork I was doing.  I've long since used all of that and now find parts on my own.  I still remember my initial excitement when he showed me everything he had gathered together for me.

I never grow tired of incorporating them into my designs.

They can make a piece so fun and whimsical.

Evan

Day 16

Something New

This is the newest addition to our family, Evan James.  He was born in December and weighed over 9 lbs.  Big boy.  He's our 1st grandchild and we cannot wait to meet him in person.

Evan's daddy is Bob's son and they live in Washington state right now.  Too far away for a grandchild, but we are hoping that he gets transferred to our area soon.  As it stands right now, we are planning a trip out to see them all in April.   I can hardly wait to get my hands on him.  Babies this age are just so cute and chunky.  This guy is especially solid.  He just has the sweetest little face.  

OK, so that was a good "Something New" wasn't it??? 

Today was a dreary rainy day and I spent several hours working away.  I got a bunch of new listings done at Vintage Supply and caught up on my packing.

I've been holding onto this fan cage for awhile, but decided to finally list it.  I think it has a great sculptural quality to it.  I would definitely hang this on my wall.  

These watch parts could be used in assemblage or jewelry making.  Lots of potential for future projects!

Jet black porcelain door knobs.  Great for artwork or use them in your home.

I have this rusty chain available once again.  This is just so handy to have around.  I've  used it to hang assemblages, incorporated it into art dolls and birds and so much more.  The links are easily opened with pliers, so you can really stretch its use.
