Well, our company is gone and it's a bit quieter here now.  We had a fun time with my sister and her family, but all good things must come to an end.  We managed to squeeze in an art project around the other activities going on.  The kids worked for 2 days on altered bottle caps.

They really did a good job on them.  We made some into necklaces and others became refrigerator magnets.  It was a good trial run for me because I'm going to be teaching a kid's art camp in a few weeks and the bottle caps will be one of the main projects.

I was able to get back to the shop today and spent the afternoon reorganizing and listing items.

I have to admit, it felt really good to have some quiet time all to myself.  I've done enough cooking and visiting in the past week to last me for awhile!

I have a lot of neat things that I am dying to get online.  I am constantly on the look out for unique and affordable things to add to Vintage Supply, so please do check back in the next few days for more listings.

Playing dress up

This last week has gone by in a flurry...summer is here and there's a million and one things to get done every day.  Company, dog sitting and an effort to squeeze in some creative time.

I've been working on these typewriter key bracelets off and on for the past few days.  My favorite has to be this "Vintage Luvr" one!  Something about the message just appeals to me : )

And yes, we have been dog sitting for my son and his girlfriend while they are in California.  Sonya is a lab mix with a heart of gold.  She's quite the fashionista and we've been having fun dressing her up and posting a picture on facebook everyday.  (She already has her own facebook page) These are some of my favorites.

Playing dress up has turned into a daily event as we brainstorm about what the picture of the day will be.  She is always such a willing participant, too.  Anyway, it's all in good fun and it's been a way for my son to stay connected to her while they are away.  She's one of those dogs that think they're people not animals.

She's being picked up tomorrow and we're going to miss her.  If we tried to dress up our little vicious cockapoo, we'd soon be missing a finger or two!

Beach time

I just got back from a few days at the beach and thought I would share a few pictures with you.  It rained a good part of the time there, but I made the best of it.

  One morning, I was standing on the pier, having an early morning coffee when I saw this little girl on the beach hunting for shells.  With a sun dress and straw bonnet, is there anything cuter?

Sun is nice, but I also like rainy days at the beach.  The only people around are walkers like me.  I guess all the sun worshipers go shopping when it rains.

Artsy painted bottles with flowers.  They were at Anthropology....a good place to go when you get tired of a rainy beach.

Of course, now that I'm at home, the sun hasn't quit shining.  But that's OK, I had a great time seeing some old friends and spending time with family.   Now, I guess it's time to get back to the grindstone!

 

Pinterest Pink

Just when you don't need any more online distractions, along comes pinterest.  I resisted for so long, but once you start, you are a gonner.  It's a Pandora's Box of beautiful images.  I have many boards, but one of my favorites is called "Pink."

The images are limitless and it's a big world out there, full of other people that like to look at beautiful things.  And it's FREE, with no distracting ads popping up.

A day at the auction

When the days get warmer here in the south, but before the stifling heat of summer sets in, you can usually find an auction somewhere close by to attend on the weekends.  Yesterday, I got lucky and found this one only 5 miles down the road from my house.

They were selling off the contents of a house built in the early 1800's.  It was a beautiful estate at one time, but time and neglect had taken its toll.

I love wandering through these old houses before the auction begins.

This one was grand in its day, but a real fixer-upper now.

They had furniture, dishes and anything else you can imagine for sale.

I thought this children's carousel was adorable.

These larger auctions tend to draw big crowds.  Usually, I can wait it out and snatch up some good buys, but most of the attendees hung in there til the bitter end; I spotted lots of dealers in this group, too.

I brought a cooler and a chair and made a day of it.  After hanging around for 8 hours, my haul at the end of the day was surprisingly light. 

I got this sweet little metal baby stroller....

....and an old farmhouse table.  Not a lot, but I've learned by now to set prices for myself and I don't get caught up in the bidding frenzy.  There seemed to be lots of that going on and more than once I raised an eyebrow in surprise at the prices being paid. 

Anyway, I guess that's the fun of it all.  The people watching at these events can turn out to be the real entertainment!
