As you probably know by now, I love anything vintage. If it has the cuteness factor thrown in, it's even better. I come across license plate keychain tags at flea markets on a pretty regular basis, and I always seem drawn to them. For my purpose (which is not collecting) they are usually marked too high. I recently had a chance buy a group of them at a reasonable price and I couldn't wait to play with them.
As coincidence would have it, I also had some colorful Cracker Jack charms that were sitting around on my worktable top. It was a match made it heaven! These two elements just seemed to be made for each other.
The license plate tags have a nice little hanger on the top, but how to attach the charms down below....? They are plastic with a metal backing, so drilling a hole in the plastic would look messy without using some kind of grommet to finish it off.
Just by coincidence (if you believe in that kind of thing) I also had a stack of vintage dog tags nearby. They paired up perfectly with the license plates and tied in with the dog theme on most of the necklaces. I also threw in a couple of thimbles and other assorted charms for variety.
It's a bright little pop of color to brighten up these dreary cold winter days. I'm going to be selling them at my upcoming shows, but if you see one you like, I'd be happy to work something out for you now!
