So this is where I have been hanging out for the last few days. After getting the wallpaper stripped last week, I spent yesterday washing the walls to get the glue residue and dirt off. We worked on mudding the walls today. I think they will need a good sanding and a second coat of mud in spots before we can put the primer on. I can't wait to get to that stage because it will tell us if all of our hard work paid off. If the walls look bumpy and uneven then we will know that we probably should have re-sheet rocked. It's a good test run for us, because we have about 2 other rooms in the house that need the same treatment. I am still exploring paint colors and storage/shelf units. Does anyone know of any websites where I could get some ideas?
I love this picture of my mobile bravely hanging amongst all of the chaos. It's about the only "artsy" thing I have in the room right now. : )
Have just recently been there and done that! We decided to take the easy road though and just sheetrocked everything! Even the ceilings are new! We are only half done and have gone through 150 sheets! Amazing! Can't wait to see your finished result! gosh, I don't envy you! so much work! but I am sure that it will be worth it in the end. it always is!

Jeannette -
Not so long ago we had a home where we had to remove 2 layers of wallpaper, and the lower layer had been adhered directly to the drywall with no prep. We were very successful in creating smooth walls with mud - no new drywall was necessary.
It was VERY hard physical labor and we'll never do it again - but we ended up with lovely walls.
You have all my sympathy and empathy as I'm guessing you're falling into bed very tired at the end of the day. But I wanted to offer hope and support that it CAN be done!.
Also - we applied the mud VERY carefully and painstakingly. And we used sponges instead of sanding to smooth the dried mud. It's so much healthier and you don't have to plastic over the whole house.
I wish you much success -
Kathy
